About this position
University of Warsaw is recruiting for a Research Assistant Professor / Post-Doc / Leader Team No. 5 – Fiber Optic Sensors and Subsystems within the MAB FENG project Centre of Excellence for Structured Fiber Optics and Applications.
The successful candidate will help develop two universal fiber-optic sensor platforms, including systems based on D-shaped fibers and all-fiber ARF fibers. The role includes surface structuring, microfluidic and gas-system integration, and the development of demonstrators for biochemical sensors and distributed quantum sensors. The appointee will also publish in high-impact journals, contribute to technology transfer, participate in the scientific life of the Centre, and help train early-career researchers.
This is a full-time temporary post in Warsaw, Poland, at the Centre of Excellence for Structured Fiber Optics and Applications, ul. Pasteura 5, with employment expected to run until 31 December 2029. The announced remuneration is PLN 420,000 gross-gross per year, under the FNP regulations for team leaders. The project also provides funding for at least one doctoral candidate or early-career postdoctoral researcher until 31 December 2029, together with technical support for the team.
Applicants should hold a PhD in science or engineering, preferably in physics, chemistry, mathematics, or technical sciences such as electronics, materials engineering, or computer science. Strong experience in passive, active, or specialty optical fibers, optical-fiber phenomena, optical glass synthesis, specialty fiber fabrication, or related linear/nonlinear modelling is expected. The post also requires a substantial research record, international or industry-facing team experience, demonstrable leadership potential, experimental research independence, familiarity with MATLAB, LabVIEW, or Python (or relevant fabrication/metrology expertise), and fluent spoken and written English.
