About this position

McGill University’s Ghoshal Lab is seeking a Research Associate in the Department of Civil Engineering to study the characterization, performance, and behavior of nanomaterials used as foliar nanofertilizers.

The project examines how nanomaterials move through and transform within plant tissues after foliar application. The researcher will assess the efficacy of nanofertilizers against industry-relevant current treatments using model crop plants and their commercial equivalents. The work combines laboratory experimentation, plant-based studies, materials analysis, and preparation of research outputs.

Key research activities include analyzing X-ray absorption data from nanofertilizers in plants and characterizing samples at the nano- and microscale. The researcher will use advanced analytical approaches such as time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to investigate chemical composition, structure, and transformation.

The role also involves preparing journal articles, reports, presentations, and proposals connected with the research projects. In addition, the Research Associate will train students in nanoparticle analysis and the use of relevant analytical techniques, contributing to the collaborative research environment of the Ghoshal Lab.

This is a full-time research appointment at McGill University’s Macdonald Engineering Building, focused on environmental nanotechnology, nanomaterials characterization, plant science, and sustainable agricultural applications.

Funding details
