About this position
This is a postdoctoral research associate position in number theory and arithmetic statistics at the University of Bath, working with Prof. Daniel Loughran as part of the EPSRC-funded programme grant Unifying Arithmetic Statistics.
The project sits within the Department of Mathematical Sciences and focuses on several interconnected themes in arithmetic statistics. The successful candidate will contribute to the programme according to their background and interests, with particular relevance to topics such as the arithmetic of algebraic stacks, rational points on higher-dimensional varieties, local-global principles, and the distribution of number fields, class groups, and rational points.
The post is embedded in a wider collaborative team led by Daniel Loughran together with Alex Bartel, Rachel Newton, and Adam Morgan across Bath, Glasgow, King’s College London, and Cambridge. The appointee will work closely with programme grant members, take part in study groups, conferences, team retreats, and visits from researchers, and play an active role in the Bath research group. The role also includes mentoring PhD students and helping organise study groups and seminars.
The position is research-focused and includes travel support, with no teaching responsibilities. It offers the opportunity to join an active international environment in mathematical research at Bath and contribute to a multi-institution programme in arithmetic statistics.
