About this position
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is seeking a Research Associate to join its turfgrass breeding team in Dallas, Texas. The project focuses on developing and genetically characterizing warm- and cool-season turfgrasses with improved adaptation, stress tolerance, disease resistance and turfgrass quality.
The researcher will contribute across the full plant-improvement pipeline, including parental preparation, controlled crossing, biparental population development and genetic diversity panels. Laboratory work will include DNA extraction and quantification, PCR, molecular marker analysis and preparation of samples for next-generation sequencing.
Field and controlled-environment studies will evaluate traits such as drought and salinity tolerance. The role will integrate phenotypic and molecular data to investigate genetic variation, identify genomic regions associated with important turfgrass traits, develop markers, and apply linkage, QTL and genomic analyses to breeding. Collaboration with the plant genomics program is an important part of the research environment.
The position also supports peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, sponsor reporting and multidisciplinary collaboration, while providing opportunities to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Work takes place across laboratory, field and controlled-environment settings within Texas A&M AgriLife’s agricultural research program.
