About this position

University of Bremen is advertising a Research Associate (PhD Candidate) (m/f/d) position in the Institute of Psychology, Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology, Faculty 11 – Human and Health Sciences.

The role is a part-time (50%), fixed-term 4-year position at Salary Group 13 TV-L. It is offered as a scientific employee role with the explicit purpose of completing a doctoral thesis. The appointment is expected to begin as soon as possible, earliest from 01.04.2027.

The research environment focuses on socio-cognitive development using eye-tracking and electroencephalography (EEG), including studies of neural and behavioural development in laboratory and realistic social interaction settings. The group also works with video-based communication, virtual reality, and interactions with artificial intelligence and robots. Topics span cognitive, social, and emotional development across the lifespan, including developmental psychopathologies such as autism and social anxiety.

The successful candidate will be able to develop and conduct research projects in these or related areas under the supervision of the group leader, with opportunities for active support in academic career development, participation in international collaborations and conferences, and methodological training in EEG, mobile eye-tracking, hyperscanning, and virtual reality. Teaching duties amount to 2 teaching hours per week and include subject-specific teaching, training in scientific methods, and potentially teaching export activities.

Applicants should have a completed university degree in Psychology (Master’s or equivalent) or a closely related subject such as cognitive science, neuroscience, or developmental psychology, with very good or excellent grades. Candidates in the final phase of their Master’s studies are welcome to apply, but a Master’s degree certificate is required for appointment. The post also requires strong quantitative and methodological skills, including R or similar statistical software, Python/PsychoPy or Matlab, psychological research methods, open science practices, and fluency in English and German.
