About this position

King’s College London invites applications for a full-time Research Associate (Postdoctoral) position in the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine, funded by the Wellcome Trust. The project aims to advance understanding of the lived experiences and support needs of minoritised ethnic people with multiple long-term conditions, with the goal of transforming how healthcare providers, communities, and policymakers construct, respond to, and support these individuals at both local and national levels. The successful candidate will join a unique interdisciplinary department that brings together social scientists, biomedical researchers, and clinicians to explore the complex social determinants of health, illness, and ageing from a global perspective.

The Research Associate will work closely with the Principal Investigator, contributing to all aspects of the study, including recruitment of participants (minoritised ethnic people with multiple long-term conditions, their carers, healthcare providers, community leaders, and policymakers), conducting interviews using narrative and creative approaches, analysing qualitative data, preparing high-quality research outputs, disseminating findings to diverse audiences, and managing administrative tasks related to the project. The role offers the opportunity to gain experience in innovative qualitative research methods, community engagement, and collaboration with community organisations and policymakers. Applicants must hold a PhD (or be in the final stages of completion) in sociology, social policy, mental health studies, or a related social science discipline, or have equivalent experience.

Essential skills include strong qualitative research experience (including research ethics, interviewing, and data analysis using software such as NVivo), community engagement (preferably with minoritised ethnic groups), excellent organisational and record-keeping abilities, the capacity to work independently after training, and proficiency in academic writing, oral presentation, and computer applications. Experience in preparing manuscripts for academic publication and willingness to travel to Manchester, London, and Coventry for participant recruitment and interviews are also required. Desirable attributes include expertise in participatory research methods, knowledge of intersectionality-informed approaches, and strong collaboration skills.

The position is full-time (35 hours per week) and offered on a fixed-term contract until 31st August 2027. Research staff at King’s College London are entitled to at least 10 days per year for professional development. Full details of the role and required skills can be found in the Job Description document. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to impactful research at the intersection of ethnicity, health, and social policy.
