About this position
Indiana University Bloomington's Department of Biology is seeking a Research Associate/Lab Manager for the Gandara Lab. The lab uses an integrative physiology approach to investigate the genetic basis, molecular mechanisms, and physiological processes that enable animals to respond to chemical stress.
Research focuses on Drosophila and other insects, using high-throughput phenotyping to study the effects of agrochemicals, pollutants, and other chemical stressors. The work combines genetic and pharmacological manipulation with molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy, behavioral assays, fly genetics, and data analysis in R to understand chemical stress responses and their interaction with animal physiology.
The successful candidate will manage general laboratory operations, perform and teach research protocols, collect data, support lab members, contribute to meetings and journal clubs, test equipment, establish standard operating procedures, prepare reports, present findings, troubleshoot technical issues, and oversee research compliance, laboratory safety, permits, and documentation.
Applicants need a bachelor's degree and two years of research experience, or a research-based master's degree. Preferred experience includes work with flies, molecular biology or imaging techniques, and R or Python. The position offers a one-year initial appointment, possible reappointment based on performance, salary commensurate with experience, and full benefits. Applications receive best consideration by November 23, 2027, and the ideal start date is January 4, 2027.
