About this position
Research Fellow in Biogeochemistry at the University of Birmingham (College of Life and Environmental Sciences).
This full-time, fixed-term research post is part of the IMPULSA project, funded by ARIA, and focuses on how nutrient variation and drought stress affect immunised and non-immunised oak seedlings grown in glasshouse conditions. The work will examine biogeochemistry, soil science, plant sciences, nutrient cycling, enzyme activity, macro- and micronutrient availability, plant tissue C:N:P ratios, stomatal conductance, photosynthesis, biomass, survival, and recovery after rewatering.
The role is suited to candidates with a PhD in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Plant Sciences, Biogeochemistry, Biology or a related discipline. Strong analytical skills, experience with research methods and data interpretation, and the ability to communicate findings clearly are required. The postholder will maintain experiments, analyse and curate data, contribute to reports and manuscripts, support grant writing, and help supervise student research where appropriate.
Funding details: full-time salary range £36,636 to £46,049 with progression potential to £48,822; fixed term until April 2028.
