About this position
The University of Greenwich is recruiting a Research Fellow in Indigenous Peoples’ Data Governance, based at the Medway Campus within the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), Faculty of Engineering and Science.
The post is part of IP-STATS, a five-year ERC-funded project advancing epistemically diverse quantitative research on Indigenous Peoples’ food systems. The successful researcher will work in the Livelihoods and Institutions Department alongside an interdisciplinary and intercultural team, Indigenous Peoples’ organisations and communities.
Research activities include co-designing research questions, methods and governance arrangements; reviewing data-governance frameworks and statistical systems; supporting culturally respectful fieldwork and partner engagement; and helping develop, pilot and disseminate the IP-STATS toolkit. Project partnerships span Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Peru, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan.
Applicants should bring long-term lived experience and substantive knowledge of Indigenous Peoples’ cultures, rights, priorities and contemporary issues. Effective, respectful and inclusive communication with Indigenous communities, as well as experience of collaborative research across cultures and knowledge traditions, is essential. Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous are particularly encouraged to apply.
This is a fixed-term research position running from 1 January 2027 to 31 July 2029, with a salary of £39,560–£45,641 per annum. Applications close on 4 November 2026. Informal enquiries may be directed to Pamela Katic at [email protected].
