The University of Birmingham is recruiting a full-time Research Fellow in the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences to join the Global Centre for Clean Energy and Equitable Transportation Solutions (CLEETS). The fixed-term role runs until November 2028 and is based at the University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The successful researcher will contribute to an international collaboration involving leading universities in the UK and USA. The project investigates the societal impacts of transport decarbonisation strategies and energy system transitions in urban regions, including the Great Lakes in the United States and South Wales and the West Midlands in the United Kingdom.
Research activities will focus on transport modelling, travel demand analysis, and data analysis using attitudinal and stated preference data. Topics include awareness of environmental impacts, sustainable travel choices, electric mobility, autonomous mobility, mobility hubs, and the adoption of clean energy and connected vehicle technologies. The postholder will also engage with regional and national stakeholders, analyse qualitative and quantitative data, develop research methods, disseminate findings, contribute to publications and funding bids, and support research-related activities.
Applicants should normally hold a first degree and a relevant higher degree or equivalent qualifications in transport engineering, transport planning, civil engineering, business studies, behavioural sciences, or a related field. Strong analytical skills in travel behaviour or travel demand analysis, familiarity with relevant models and techniques, and the ability to communicate complex information are important.
