About this position

This Research Fellow position sits within the Monash Remote Food Systems program and is based in Darwin, Northern Territory, with close links to the Menzies School of Health Research nutrition program. The role focuses on research addressing food security in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, combining program evaluation, collaborative case study work, and community-led evidence generation.

The successful researcher will lead the co-design and delivery of an evaluation of a remote food security program, working with the program organisation and other stakeholders to build engagement, establish a reference group, manage ethics processes, and oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting. The position also contributes to a collaborative case study involving remote communities in Queensland and the Northern Territory, helping translate findings into policy-relevant evidence and strengthening the research capacity of partner organisations.

The project environment is strongly collaborative and interdisciplinary, with links to a Commonwealth Government food security initiative and an NHMRC-funded project on climate change and food security in remote Australia. The advertised contact is Professor Julie Brimblecombe, Professor of Public Health Nutrition, who can be contacted for enquiries about the role.

Travel to remote communities is required, and the work is framed around supporting food security, community-led research, and policy development in remote Australia.
