About this position
The University of Birmingham is recruiting a full-time, fixed-term Research Fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, based in Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom. The appointment runs until January 2028 and offers a Grade 7 salary of £36,636, subject to the stated funding limit.
Based in Professor Melanie Madhani’s research group, the post will investigate novel therapeutic approaches for hypertension. The successful researcher will work in a multidisciplinary cardiovascular research environment using physiological, biochemical, and molecular approaches to identify mechanisms and therapeutic targets in cardiovascular disease.
The role is particularly suited to a recently qualified PhD graduate or postdoctoral researcher with cardiovascular experience. Key research interests and techniques include cardiovascular physiology, ex vivo vascular functional pharmacology, vascular reactivity studies, wire myography, redox biochemistry, metabolism, vascular signalling, and the analysis of patient-derived blood and adipose tissue samples.
Applicants should have a PhD or be near completion in cardiovascular sciences, cardiovascular physiology, pharmacology, or a related field, plus a first degree in biological or medical science. Strong analytical and communication skills are required, along with the ability to interpret complex experimental data, contribute to research proposals and publications, develop methods, coordinate collaborative work, and support students and research administration. Expertise in redox biochemistry and metabolism is desirable.
Applications should be submitted through the University of Birmingham Employee Careers portal for job 10242 by 9 November 2026. Informal enquiries can be sent to Professor Melanie Madhani at [email protected].
