About this position
RIKEN’s Research Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research is recruiting one Researcher, Special Researcher/Postdoctoral Fellow, or Research Associate for the Physical Biology Research Team in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan. The fixed-term position is available from April 1, 2027 or by consultation and will study fundamental principles governing cells and multicellular populations.
The team combines mathematical science and life science to investigate order formation in living systems, including cellular polarity, chirality, collective movement, morphogenesis, cytoskeletal self-organization, epithelial tissue folding, and developmental cell behavior. Research may be experimental or theoretical and can integrate measurement, data analysis, modeling, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Relevant interests include physical biology, cell biology, biophysics, developmental biology, mechanobiology, cell movement, chemical physics, and soft matter physics.
Applicants for Researcher positions need a related Ph.D. Special Researchers must hold or be expecting a related Ph.D. by appointment and normally have received it within five years. Research Associates need a related master’s degree and a clear commitment to pursuing a Ph.D. and progressing toward a higher research position. All applicants should communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines, demonstrate curiosity and initiative, and be prepared to develop proactive research proposals.
The annual salary starts at approximately 3 million yen, with hiring-level monthly compensation of at least 450,000 yen for researchers, 390,000 yen for special researchers, and 320,000 yen for research associates, including the discretionary-work allowance. Commuting and housing allowances, social insurance, and related benefits are provided. The contract is renewable subject to evaluation, generally up to five years.
Applications are accepted until October 30, 2027, but the search may close earlier once a suitable candidate is appointed. Submit the required résumé, publication or achievement list, and additional documents through the RIKEN recruitment webpage.
