About this position
The International Max Planck Research School on Interdisciplinary Plant Biology is offering seven fully funded PhD positions in computational and experimental plant sciences in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and the University of Cologne in Germany.
The graduate school investigates fundamental biological processes in plants and develops knowledge and materials that can support innovative plant breeding. Research projects span reproductive development, organ geometry and growth, innate immunity, microbiome effects on plant performance, genetics, genomics, structural biochemistry, advanced imaging, and computational and mathematical modelling across various plant species.
Successful doctoral researchers will join an international, interdisciplinary environment, receive close supervision from advisory committees, participate in professional-skills training, and work with state-of-the-art facilities. Training is conducted in English.
Applicants of any nationality should hold or expect to hold a Master's degree in a related subject, demonstrate academic and research excellence, and be fluent in written and spoken English. The positions are fully funded for three years, with possible extension, and provide salary under a Max Planck Society doctoral funding contract at TVöD 13, 65%.
Applications must be submitted online by 5 January 2027. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 15–19 March 2027, and selected researchers are expected to begin their PhD between summer and 1 October 2027. Project details are available at the IMPRS proposals page. Questions may be directed to Dr. Monika Schlosser at [email protected].
