About this position
RIKEN’s Biopolymer Research Team, Center for Environmental Resource Science, is recruiting a Special Research Fellow for research at the intersection of polymer chemistry, polymer materials, and biopolymer science.
The position is based in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, and the team is developing new bio-structural materials using novel biopolymers such as polyamides, polypeptides, and structural proteins, together with plant organelle modification technologies and new plant biotechnologies.
Successful candidates will work on one of the following themes: spinning artificial silk (spider silk), building a large database of computational data for polymer materials, peptides, and proteins, or data-driven polymer design. The role is described as a researcher/postdoctoral-equivalent fixed-term contract position.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in information science, science and engineering, or life sciences, or have equivalent research experience. The doctorate should have been obtained within the last five years, or be obtainable by the start date.
