About this position
RIKEN is recruiting a Special Research Fellow in the Plant Chemical Genetics Research Team at the Center for Environmental Resource Science in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan.
This is a postdoctoral-equivalent, fixed-term contract position focused on plant chemical genetics, plant hormones, crop resilience, genome editing, molecular breeding, genome analysis, and related work on wheat and Arabidopsis thaliana. The lab aims to understand plant physiological responses at the molecular or atomic level and to develop improved crop productivity and drought tolerance, including novel plant growth regulators.
The successful candidate will work on research projects contributing to planetary resilience science, including improving environmental stress tolerance, increasing productivity in nutrient-poor soils, and elucidating the molecular mechanisms and signal transduction of plant hormones and bioactive molecules.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (earned within the last five years or expected by the start date) and have experience in plant molecular physiology, crop molecular breeding, agricultural chemistry, or plant genome research. Strong motivation, willingness to learn, and the ability to collaborate effectively are emphasized. Fieldwork travel during the wheat cultivation season is required.
Funding is provided through RIKEN’s annual salary system, starting at about 4 million yen per year, with commuting and housing allowances and social insurance. The appointment is initially for one year and may be renewed up to March 31, 2029, subject to performance and institutional conditions.
Deadline: January 23, 2027. Location: RIKEN Yokohama Campus, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
