About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is offering two Post-Doctoral Fellow positions within the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat-RC) in a collaborative project with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The project focuses on recycling plastic waste through innovative sustainable physical and/or chemical pathways, with research centered on polymer processing, recycling, characterization, and the development of advanced solutions for a green and circular economy.

The successful candidates will work under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi in an interdisciplinary environment bringing together chemists, polymer specialists, and engineers. The role includes hands-on experimental work in polymer processing and characterization; designing, executing, and analyzing experiments using analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques; maintaining detailed research records; drafting technical reports, research papers, and conference presentations; contributing to proposal writing and external funding efforts; and supervising undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. Short-term travel abroad may also be required.

UM6P is an internationally oriented university focused on applied research and innovation, with strong links to sustainable development in Morocco and Africa. SusMat-RC is a multidisciplinary research center working on biobased products, materials, structure-property relationships, and technologies that support the transition to a greener circular economy. This postdoctoral opportunity is therefore well suited to researchers who want to combine advanced polymer/materials research with environmental impact and translational innovation.

Eligibility is broad but targeted: applicants should hold a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, and should bring practical experience in polymer processing and characterization. Strong material performance testing skills, initiative, independence, collaboration, and excellent English communication are important. Prior postdoctoral experience and a record of multidisciplinary research contributions are expected.

To apply, candidates must submit a detailed CV, a cover letter with a summary of their background and achievements, a research plan tailored to the role, contact information for three referees, and three reference letters. The posting states that two positions are available. No funding package is specified in the advertisement text.
