About this position

Sciences Po is advertising a Teaching Assistant position for the Autumn 2026–2027 academic year.

The role supports Professor Jan Rovny’s Master’s lecture course, Democracy in Europe – Backsliding and Competition in Multi-Level Systems, part of the Common Academic Curriculum at Sciences Po (Paris campus).

The course covers democratic developments and challenges in Europe from a multi-level perspective, including national and European institutions, the institutional and cultural foundations of democracy, populism, democratic backsliding, and responses to these trends. It also engages with advanced academic literature and quantitative measures of democracy and its institutions.

This opportunity is aimed at a PhD student or post-doc who is comfortable reading and discussing advanced academic literature in English and who is interested in supporting teaching for the course.

Schedule details: Mondays, 10:15 am–12:15 pm, Paris campus, from September 7 to December 9, 2026. Vacation period is Oct 26–Nov 1; mid-terms are Oct 17, 24, and Nov 7, 14; finals are Dec 11–17; grades are due mid-January 2027.
