About this position
Baltic Peripeties is an interdisciplinary International Research Training Group hosted by the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities in trinational cooperation with the University of Tartu and NTNU Trondheim.
The programme explores narratives of Reformations, Revolutions and Catastrophes around the Baltic region. It welcomes doctoral projects that define a distinctive research focus while contributing to the programme’s broader intellectual framework.
Doctoral research may be situated in the group on literatures and languages, including Baltic Studies, Finnish Studies, modern German literature, Scandinavian Studies and Slavonic/Ukrainian Studies. Other routes include history, with emphasis on the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Period, the Modern Era and Eastern European History; political science, including political sociology, methods and comparative political science; and practical philosophy.
The training environment brings together researchers and doctoral candidates across Germany, Estonia and Norway, supporting comparative, interdisciplinary and regionally focused work on Baltic histories, cultures, political developments and intellectual traditions.
