The Lund University Centre for Translational Cancer Research is offering a fully funded PhD position in Tumor Biology, focusing on the functional validation of therapeutic targets within the brain tumor microenvironment. The successful candidate will join the Pietras Lab at Medicon Village, Sweden, and work on a project supported by a prestigious ERC grant. The research involves advanced single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to map disease progression and validate new therapeutic targets using in vivo and in vitro models. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in medicine, biomedicine, or molecular biology who are interested in transitioning from theoretical oncology to high-impact experimental research. The PhD student will be part of a multidisciplinary team, including bioinformaticians, postdocs, and research engineers, in a collaborative and international environment. The position offers a structured four-year employment contract under the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, with a competitive monthly salary, generous annual leave, and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. The student will also participate in global seminars and conferences, presenting research findings and engaging in professional networking. Applicants must have a university degree in medicine, biomedicine, or a related field, with documented experience in in vivo cancer models and the isolation of primary cell types such as astrocytes and myeloid cells. Strong communication skills in English, organizational abilities, and a collaborative mindset are essential. Additional qualifications include training in tumor biology and experience with mouse models of glioblastoma. Applications should include a personal letter, CV, degree certificates, transcripts, and any other relevant documents, and must be submitted via the university’s recruitment system by April 8, 2026.
