Postdoc and PhD openings in systemic immunometabolism at the Bergthaler Lab, Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna), with close collaboration and access to core facilities at CeMM Austrian Academy of Sciences. The lab is recruiting one Postdoc and one PhD student to study how infection, immunity, adaptive immune responses, and cross-organ communication reshape metabolism and contribute to tissue wasting/cachexia. The project spans fundamental and disease-relevant questions from the single-cell level to the whole organism, with a strong emphasis on mechanistic biology. Research areas and methods: immunometabolism, immunology, infection, cancer-related cachexia, metabolism, tissue wasting, metabolic modelling, bioinformatics, computational biology, single-cell sequencing, spectral cytometry, metabolomics, metabolite tracing, metabolic cages, genetic and metabolic perturbations, and disease models. Eligibility highlights: candidates should have a degree in immunology, virology, molecular biology, metabolism, medicine, bioinformatics, computational biology, metabolic modelling, or a related field. Strong wet-lab, dry-lab, or hybrid skills are desired, along with initiative, critical thinking, teamwork, and clear communication. The lab welcomes applicants with their own project ideas. Funding: both positions are funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) at FWF salary rates, with a flexible start date.
