Fully Funded Postdoc in Soil Microbial Ecology and Biochar Effects at Aarhus University

Two-year fully funded postdoctoral position in soil microbial ecology at Aarhus University , Denmark, within the Department of Environmental Science in Roskilde. The project focuses on the effects of biochar on soil micro-organisms in Danish agricultural soil, with strong links to soil health, climate change mitigation, and the Danish Biochar Long-Term Experiment. The successful candidate will work across field and laboratory settings, collecting soil samples across Denmark, planning and executing experiments, analysing eDNA and eRNA , studying microbial interactions, biofilm formation on biochar particles, and the functional/genetic activity of microorganisms. The role also involves dissemination through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, plus collaboration in a multidisciplinary research team. Eligibility highlights: a PhD in environmental microbiology, agronomy, environmental science, or molecular biology; experience in soil microbial ecology and soil health; strong field and lab skills; aseptic isolation and culturing of soil microorganisms; and a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals. Experience with interdisciplinary research and autonomous fieldwork is expected. A valid driver’s license is preferable. Funding: fully funded postdoc with salary and terms according to Danish university agreements. Duration is two years, starting 1 October 2026. Application deadline: 30 August 2026.
