About this position

Two-year fully funded postdoctoral position in soil microbial ecology at Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Department of Environmental Science in Roskilde. The project focuses on the effects of biochar on soil micro-organisms in Danish agricultural soil, with strong links to soil health, climate change mitigation, and the Danish Biochar Long-Term Experiment.

The successful candidate will work across field and laboratory settings, collecting soil samples across Denmark, planning and executing experiments, analysing eDNA and eRNA, studying microbial interactions, biofilm formation on biochar particles, and the functional/genetic activity of microorganisms. The role also involves dissemination through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, plus collaboration in a multidisciplinary research team.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in environmental microbiology, agronomy, environmental science, or molecular biology; experience in soil microbial ecology and soil health; strong field and lab skills; aseptic isolation and culturing of soil microorganisms; and a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals. Experience with interdisciplinary research and autonomous fieldwork is expected. A valid driver’s license is preferable.

Funding: fully funded postdoc with salary and terms according to Danish university agreements. Duration is two years, starting 1 October 2026.
