UNSW Sydney is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Rare-Earth Nanomaterials & Biomineralisation for magnetic device applications . The project sits at the intersection of materials science , chemistry , physics , and synthetic biology , with a strong emphasis on using engineered proteins as scaffolds for the synthesis and characterization of rare-earth element nanoparticles. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team at the School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Science (BABS), UNSW Sydney , collaborating with protein engineers, materials scientists, and physicists. The research involves biomineralized nanomaterials, nanoparticle synthesis, structural and magnetic characterization, and advanced analytical techniques relevant to nanomaterials research. Research keywords: rare-earth nanomaterials, biomineralisation, protein engineering, magnetic materials, nanoparticle characterization, TEM/STEM-EDS, SEM, AFM, XRD, FTIR/Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis/fluorescence spectroscopy, ICP-MS/OES. Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Synthetic Biology, or a related field. Experience with nanomaterial characterization methods is preferred. Protein engineering or protein characterization experience is advantageous but not required. The post also expects a strong publication record, independent and collaborative working ability, good communication skills, and alignment with UNSW values, diversity and inclusion, and health and safety. Funding and terms: this is a 12-month full-time postdoctoral appointment with a salary of AUD $113K–$121K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
