This postdoctoral fellowship sits in the ANU Law School and supports an ARC Discovery Project on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and its evolving role as the “World Court.” The project examines how the ICJ has become a global institution through an innovative blend of empirical, archival, qualitative and sociolegal research. The successful fellow will contribute to several strands of the project, including archival research, qualitative interviews, and the development of a novel dataset. The role is designed for a researcher interested in large-scale, interdisciplinary work on international adjudication, legal institutions and global governance. The appointee will work closely with Professor Esme Shirlow at ANU and Dr Florian Grisel at CNRS, within an international and interdisciplinary research network. The project also connects the fellow with leading academics, international lawyers, government officials and practitioners who work on or alongside the ICJ. Beyond core research activity, the position includes opportunities to co-author publications, contribute to high-impact outputs, help organise workshops, and support the project’s Research Hub. The fellow may also assist with the supervision of HDR students and participate in the wider intellectual life of the College and University. The host institution, Australian National University , presents the position within its nationally and internationally recognised Law School, with strengths in public and international law and a broader environment spanning environmental, private and corporate, and human rights law.
