About
Isabel Smallegange is a Professor at Newcastle University, United Kingdom. Her research primarily focuses on life histories and ecological dynamics of ectotherms, including species such as blacktip reef sharks and bulb mites. Recent publications explore various aspects of developmental plasticity, mating behaviors, and the interaction between population models and environmental change.

Newcastle University
Newcastle University is recruiting two Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRAs) for an NERC-funded project on adaptation under climate change and development-centric demography in a warming world. PDRA 1: Experimental Evolutionary Ecology (now open) will design and deliver laboratory and field experiments using a tractable model system (bulb mites) to generate empirical data on life-history , development , and population processes . PDRA 2: Eco-evolutionary Demographic Modelling (opening soon) will develop novel modelling approaches integrating development , energetics , and demography to study adaptation and extinction risk under warming. The project is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, linking theory and empirical work , with opportunities for public engagement (including a Minecraft Education component). The role is based at the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences , Newcastle University, UK. Funding: NERC-funded postdoctoral research positions. Eligibility/fit: Candidates with experience or interest in experimental evolutionary ecology, eco-evolutionary modelling, demography, climate-change adaptation, and related quantitative or experimental methods are likely to fit well. Application: One role is already open and the second is opening soon. Start is planned for Summer 2026 .
