This PhD project at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is hosted by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in Trondheim and sits within the interdisciplinary STRIDE initiative, part of NTNU’s broader More Resilient Society programme. The project focuses on how interdependent multi-hazards affect transport systems when climate-driven events and security threats occur together. It studies converging hazards such as storms, floods, and water-induced landslides alongside targeted sabotage across transport networks, with attention to how disruptions spread through critical transport corridors. The successful candidate will develop a hybrid multi-hazard framework that combines physics-based simulation with data-driven statistical and machine learning methods. A key part of the work is the development of spatiotemporal fragility functions to understand and quantify cascading disruption effects in transport infrastructure. The PhD candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary research environment involving transport modelling, artificial intelligence, operations research, civil engineering, and science and technology studies. The project links closely with other PhD candidates working on interdependent hazards, multimodal transport modelling, and the societal dimensions of resilience and total defense. The candidate will also participate in the Geotechnical research group at NTNU and engage in international activities such as conferences and research stays abroad.
