This doctoral project at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Gothenburg, focuses on remote sensing of landscape change in the Arctic . The work combines drone observations collected across the Arctic, a decade of multispectral Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, and recent advances in machine learning and AI to study changes in Arctic land cover. The project is embedded in the department’s doctoral school and in local and international networks of Arctic researchers. The research aims to generate new insights into how different Arctic land-cover changes interact and affect ecosystem functioning, supporting better representation of the Arctic in regional and global Earth system models. As a doctoral student, you will work with multi-source remote sensing data, develop advanced analytical approaches, collaborate with project partners and research group members, and contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations. The position is based within a research environment that emphasizes ecosystem science, climatology, applied geoscience, and strong Arctic research activities. The project is supervised by Jakob Assmann at the Department of Earth Sciences.
