PhD Scholarship in Catalyst and Membrane Engineering for Electrochemical Co-Production of Ethylene and Green Hydrogen

🚨 PhD Scholarship Opportunity at RMIT University in collaboration with CSIRO Energy . This funded project is titled “Catalyst and Membrane Engineering for Electrochemical Co-Production of Ethylene and Green Hydrogen from Ethane” . It sits at the intersection of chemical engineering , chemistry , materials science , catalysis , electrochemistry , and membrane engineering , with a strong focus on sustainable fuels and clean-energy chemical manufacturing. The research aims to develop a low-temperature electrochemical route to produce ethylene and green hydrogen simultaneously. The work includes designing coke-resistant transition metal oxide catalysts, fabricating thin dense proton-conducting ceramic membranes, integrating catalysts into electrochemical membrane reactors, and evaluating performance for real-world applications. This is a fully funded PhD scholarship with stipend + tuition . The project provides access to world-class facilities at RMIT and CSIRO, joint supervision, and an industry-connected research environment with publication opportunities and a clear 3-year milestone plan. Eligibility highlights include an Honours or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline. Helpful experience includes catalysis, electrochemistry, ceramic processing, or membrane technology, along with lab skills such as SEM/TEM, XRD, XPS, GC, or EIS. Domestic applicants from Australia and New Zealand are strongly encouraged, and outstanding international candidates are also welcome.
