AI applied to Real-World Robotics

A fully funded PhD position is available in Foundation Models for Robotic Systems and Automation, jointly offered by Technische Universität Darmstadt and the BMW Group in Munich. The successful candidate will join the Innovation and Emerging Technologies Department at BMW Group and work under the supervision of Prof. Jan Peters, a leading expert in machine learning and robotics. The research will focus on developing and applying foundation models to real-world robotic systems in automotive manufacturing, aiming to enhance perception, decision-making, and adaptability in complex production environments. The project involves close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and technology partners, and offers opportunities to participate in top international conferences in AI, machine learning, and robotics. Applicants should hold a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, and possess strong skills in AI, robotics, machine learning, deep learning, and software development (Python, C/C++).
