Aarhus University invites applications for a fully funded one-year postdoctoral position in Advanced Image Processing for Spectral Micro-CT Breast Cancer Imaging. This interdisciplinary project, based at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Aarhus University Hospital, focuses on developing advanced computational methods for spectral (photon-counting) micro-CT to improve breast cancer surgery outcomes. The research aims to create quantitative 3D imaging biomarkers by bridging high-resolution micro-CT and histology, enabling more precise tumour characterisation and margin assessment. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team led by Associate Professor Jasper Nijkamp (Head of Innovation, medical physics) and Associate Professor Trine Tramm (consultant pathologist), working closely with clinicians, engineers, and researchers. The postdoc will lead efforts in image processing, including deformable image registration, segmentation, and computational analysis of spectral micro-CT data. There are opportunities to advance reconstruction and material decomposition techniques, publish in high-impact journals, and participate in international collaborations. Applicants must have a PhD in medical imaging, biomedical engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field. Essential skills include strong experience in image processing and analysis (especially 3D segmentation and registration), programming (Python, C++, MATLAB), and familiarity with scientific libraries (ITK/SimpleITK, VTK, TensorFlow/PyTorch). Desirable qualifications include knowledge of CT reconstruction, spectral imaging physics, deep learning for imaging, and prior work with histology–imaging registration. Fluency in English and strong interpersonal skills are required. The position offers a competitive salary (DKK 484,214.84–538,720.20 per year, plus pension), relocation support for international applicants, and access to state-of-the-art facilities, including the Danish Center of Particle Therapy. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary and supportive, with opportunities for career development and international networking. Applications must be submitted via Aarhus University’s recruitment system by 16 March 2026. Required documents include a motivated application, CV, diploma, list of publications, teaching portfolio, and up to five relevant publications. For more information, contact Jasper Nijkamp ([email protected]) or Trine Tramm ([email protected]).
