PhD Course in Decision-Making and Adaptive Management for Conservation

PhD course opportunity at Aarhus University / Institut for Ecoscience : Decision-Making and Adaptive Management for Conservation . This 3.5 ECTS PhD course focuses on decision-making , adaptive management , conservation , natural resource management , environmental science , and the use of analytical tools for decision support under uncertainty. The course is designed for PhD students interested in tackling complex environmental and conservation challenges through structured decision analysis. Course dates: 5–9 October 2026 Location: AU Campus, Universitetsparken, Aarhus C, Denmark Capacity: 25 participants, first come, first served Participants will work on framing decision problems, defining objectives, selecting appropriate tools, handling uncertainty and trade-offs, and designing evidence-based strategies. The course includes lectures, group work, discussions, and hands-on team projects. Topics include ecological modeling, ecological monitoring, multi-objective decisions, value of information, sequential decisions, and adaptive management. Eligibility highlights: PhD students only. No advanced mathematical skills are required. No programming expertise is required, although basic familiarity with R would be helpful. Active participation and a project report are required for assessment. Funding/fees: No fee for PhD students enrolled at a Danish university (excluding materials, travel, accommodation, and meals). For PhD students enrolled at a non-Danish university, the fee is 565 EUR (excluding materials, travel, accommodation, and meals). Deadline: Registration deadline is 15 June 2026.
