An industrial postdoctoral position is available in the field of marine sediment resuspension and its environmental impacts, with a focus on advancing process-based modeling of natural and anthropogenic sediment resuspension events in coastal and marine systems. The position is a collaboration between DHI, a global leader in water and environmental solutions, and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The successful candidate will join DHI’s environmental team in the Marine and Coastal Global Business Unit and work closely with Prof. Karen Timmermann (DTU) and Director Anders Chr. Erichsen (DHI). The research will involve developing and implementing model formulations for nutrient release and oxygen consumption associated with sediment resuspension, integrating these into the MIKE Powered by DHI marine modeling suite, and validating the models with laboratory and field data. The postdoc will also perform sensitivity analyses and scenario modeling to assess ecological impacts, and disseminate results through conferences and scientific journals. Applicants should have a completed PhD within the last 5 years, strong expertise in coastal biogeochemical processes and modeling, analytical and programming skills (C++, Matlab, or Python), and experience in technical dissemination. Desirable qualifications include laboratory experience, knowledge of sediment-water interactions, handling large datasets, and a background in coastal engineering, chemical engineering, applied mathematics, or oceanography. The position requires proactive collaboration and the ability to start by June 1, 2026, including securing a Danish work permit. The postdoc is fully funded for 2 years and 3 months, with salary according to Danish university agreements. The primary office is in Hørsholm, Denmark, with additional facilities at DTU’s Lyngby campus. The application deadline is April 1, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the DHI careers page or contact Anders Chr. Erichsen at [email protected]. Keywords: marine sediment resuspension, coastal systems, biogeochemical modeling, environmental impacts, hydrodynamic-ecological modelling, nutrient fluxes, oxygen consumption, coastal engineering, oceanography, applied mathematics.

This industrial postdoc opportunity is a collaboration between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Aqua) and DHI, focusing on advancing process-based biogeochemical modelling of sediment resuspension in marine and coastal systems. The research aims to understand and quantify the environmental impacts of both natural and anthropogenic sediment resuspension events, such as those caused by storms, dredging, or bottom trawling, with a particular emphasis on nutrient and oxygen fluxes. The successful candidate will work on developing and implementing new model formulations for nutrient release and oxygen consumption associated with sediment resuspension, integrating these into DHI’s MIKE software suite for hydrodynamic-ecological modelling. The role involves conducting controlled laboratory experiments, validating models against lab and field data, and performing scenario analyses to assess ecological impacts. The position is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and offers a dynamic research environment at the intersection of academia and industry, with mentorship from Prof. Karen Timmermann (DTU Aqua) and Anders Chr. Erichsen (DHI). Applicants should have a PhD (completed within the last 5 years) in a relevant field such as coastal biogeochemistry, oceanography, coastal or chemical engineering, or applied mathematics. Essential skills include strong analytical abilities, experience in computational programming (C++, Matlab, or Python), and a proven track record in scientific dissemination. Desirable qualifications include laboratory experience, familiarity with sediment-water interactions, and handling large datasets. The position requires proactive, collaborative researchers who are eager to contribute to cutting-edge environmental science with real-world applications. The postdoc is a full-time, 2-year funded position (with a possible extension to 2 years and 3 months), with a latest start date of June 1, 2026. Salary and employment conditions follow national agreements for university employees in Denmark. The primary office location is at DHI in Hørsholm, with additional facilities at DTU Lyngby for collaboration with university researchers. The application deadline is April 1, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the DHI careers page or contact Anders Chr. Erichsen at [email protected]. Key research areas: coastal biogeochemistry, sediment resuspension, marine ecosystem modelling, nutrient and oxygen fluxes, hydrodynamic-ecological modelling, MIKE software, environmental impacts, and oceanography.
