Relativistic Attosecond Physics Laboratory (REAL) at Umeå University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join a project at the intersection of laser physics and artificial intelligence. The position is based in the Department of Physics and runs full-time for two years. The project centres on the Light Wave Synthesizer 100 (LWS100) , a unique optical parametric synthesizer system used to produce intense isolated attosecond pulses. LWS100 is described as a 4.5 fs, 100 TW laser with carrier-envelope phase stabilisation. The postdoctoral researcher will work on implementing AI- and machine-learning-based control to optimise this laser system more rapidly than human operators can, improve overall performance, and fine-tune the system for specific operating conditions when needed. The role is embedded in REAL’s research on laser development and the generation and application of intense isolated attosecond pulses. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental work on a world-unique high-power laser platform and will be part of a research environment focused on advanced ultrafast laser science.

Umeå University’s Department of Physics is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work in attosecond physics within the Relativistic Attosecond Physics Laboratory (REAL) . The project is centered on the generation, characterization, and application of intense isolated attosecond pulses in the XUV and X-ray range. The research environment combines advanced laser development with experimental ultrafast science. The laboratory works with Light Wave Synthesizer 100 (LWS100) , described as a world-unique optical parametric synthesizer system with 4.5 fs pulse duration, 100 TW peak power, and carrier-envelope phase stabilization. In addition, experimental beamlines are available for producing intense attosecond pulses through gas or plasma media, together with detectors and tools for characterizing XUV and X-ray radiation. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects on high-harmonic generation (HHG) at the attosecond scale and relativistic laser-plasma physics . The post is strongly experimental in nature and offers the opportunity to work with sophisticated ultrafast laser infrastructure and attosecond pulse sources in a dedicated research laboratory. The position is based at Umeå University and is connected to the research group around REAL and Prof. Laszlo Veisz.
