PhD opportunity in prebiotic biophysics and therapeutics at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The project explores the origins of life through the physical properties and phase behaviors of abiotically synthesized biopolymers, using advanced experimental tools such as a planetary simulation chamber and levitator. The work also has a translational angle, investigating how these ancient polymers may inform next-generation therapeutic applications and industry collaborations. This is an interdisciplinary research environment connecting physics , biophysics , chemical biology , chemistry , and applied biomedical research. The group emphasizes collaborative work with partners in Chemical Biology and the broader McMaster community. Ideal applicants should have a strong background in biophysics, chemical biology, or a related field, plus strong research experience, wet lab skills, and experience with biophysical, chemical, and biochemical characterization techniques. Scientific publishing experience is also preferred. The position is for a PhD student starting as early as September 2026 (Fall 2026). Interested candidates should contact Professor Maikel Rheinstadter with a CV and a brief statement of research interests.
