PhD and postdoctoral positions are available for Feb/March 2027 on an ARC Discovery Project at the University of Melbourne:
Slow Emergencies, Policy Change, and Hopeful Futures for Young People
.
The project is led by Marcia McKenzie, Sam Sellar, and Sarah E. Truman, and examines how education policy in Australia can better respond to the impacts of AI, climate change, and pandemics on young people's mental health, learning, and sense of future. The work is interdisciplinary and includes an Advisory Council with scholars and practitioners such as Ben Anderson, Michelle Bishop, David Bissell, Katitza M. Chavez, Keri Facer, Justine Grønbæk Pors, Birgul Kutan, Sarah Pink, and Ben Williamson.
The PhD project will focus on the role of participatory forums as focusing events in opening windows for policy change. Funding is available for domestic PhD students only, with Australian citizenship or residency required.
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to interviews, participatory forums with young people and policy makers, and scholarly writing. Domestic postdoc applicants are prioritised because of visa requirements, though there may be some possibility of an international hire.
