Postdoctoral Position in Computational Social Science for Studying and Combating Everyday Misogyny in Visual Online Cultures

Postdoctoral position in computational social science at Uppsala University , Department of Information Technology / InfoLab. This postdoc is part of the EU HORIZON project FEMVision – Fighting Everyday Misogyny in Visual Online Cultures , focused on studying and combating everyday misogyny in visual online spaces. The work sits at the intersection of computer science , computational social science , machine learning , AI , social media analysis , and computational image analysis . The successful candidate will lead development of a classifier for online visual misogyny, apply it to social media data for empirical mapping, and develop a chatbot that adds a conversational layer to the classifier. The role also includes work on data donation, curated dataset construction, data access/collection/availability, testing the classifier, analyzing online reactions, and integrating the tools with other project activities. The position is based at the Information Laboratory (InfoLab), an interdisciplinary research group working on extraction of knowledge from social data. The broader consortium includes partners across Europe, and the postdoc will collaborate with IT-Universitetet i København and Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli. Eligibility highlights: PhD in computer science, computational social science, or a related discipline (or equivalent foreign degree); degree must be completed by the employment decision. Priority is given to candidates who earned the degree within the last three years, though exceptions may apply. Strong programming skills, excellent linguistic competence, and experience with social data and AI/ML methods are required. Employment details: temporary full-time position for 3 years; 80% research and 20% teaching/other duties; starting date 1 October 2026 or as agreed; placement in Uppsala.
