A fully funded PhD opportunity is available at the Institute of Photonics, University of Strathclyde, starting October 2025. The project focuses on developing quantum photonic chips, specifically photonic circuit technologies operating at visible wavelengths with integrated membrane devices, using nanoscale accurate heterogeneous integration methods. The research aims to advance on-chip quantum systems by integrating multiple material platforms to achieve function-on-demand, addressing challenges in scaling quantum technologies. The student will gain expertise in numerical simulation, cleanroom fabrication, transfer printing integration, and advanced optical measurement. The project is co-funded by Fraunhofer UK, providing access to additional labs and supervision, and is embedded within a vibrant research cohort at the Institute of Photonics. Applicants must hold at least an upper-second class BSc or a Masters in Physics, Engineering, or a related field, and must qualify as a UK home student. The funding covers full tuition and a stipend. To apply, send a CV to [email protected]. The application deadline is 16 January 2026.
