About
Mick Craig is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, UK. His research focuses on neuronal oscillations and their implications in neurological diseases, including Alzheimer's and schizophrenia. Recent publications include investigations into gamma oscillation plasticity, memory circuits, and the relationship between glutamatergic projections and hippocampal function.

Mick Craig
Queen's University Belfast
A fully funded PhD position is available at the University of Glasgow, co-supervised by Prof Mick Craig, Dr Ana González Rueda, and Dr Gareth Arnott (Queen's University Belfast). The project investigates the neurobiology of motivation in mice, leveraging their natural predatory instincts to study goal-directed behaviour. Research will employ optogenetic circuit manipulation, in vivo electrophysiology, and behavioural assays to dissect the neural circuitry underlying motivation and reward. The project also explores the use of foraging behaviour as an assay for depression in agricultural animals. The successful candidate will gain expertise in systems neuroscience, in vivo surgery, microscopy, electrophysiology, behavioural analysis, and coding, providing a strong foundation for academic and industry careers, including data science. Applicants should have a strong academic background in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or related fields, and demonstrate motivation for research. The position is fully funded, including tuition and stipend, through the NorthWest Biosciences Doctoral Training Centre. The application deadline is December 28, 2024. Interested candidates should review the project details and apply via the University of Glasgow's postgraduate portal.
