About
Mikael Sellin is a Professor at Uppsala University in Sweden. His research primarily focuses on the interactions between pathogens, particularly Salmonella and Giardia, and the host's intestinal epithelium. Recent articles highlight his investigations into mast cell phenotypic heterogeneity, the role of neutrophils during gut infections, and the molecular mechanisms underlying microbial virulence. Through advanced imaging and detection techniques, he aims to unravel the complexities of pathogen dynamics and their impact on human health.

The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University, Sweden, is seeking a Research Engineer to join the Sellin research group. The position focuses on the use of organoid models to study bacterial infection mechanisms and antibiotic interventions. The research aims to understand how pathogenic bacteria invade and spread in the intestinal mucosa and how antibiotics and anti-infective treatments can limit colonization. The project involves advanced organoid culture, large-scale cultivation, and development of tissue culture models that mimic the human gut lining. Candidates will also participate in administrative tasks such as reagent management, systematic documentation, and planning in collaboration with the group leader. Applicants must have an MSc in biomedical or biotechnology fields and several years of hands-on experience with organoid culture and bacteriological techniques at biosafety levels 1 and 2. Additional requirements include strong organizational skills, experience with research reagent and pharmacological substance management systems (e.g., KLARA), biobank samples, and bacterial isolates. The role requires initiative, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and excellent English proficiency. Flexibility, teamwork, and proactive goal-oriented work are highly valued. The position is full-time and permanent, with salary individually negotiated. The application deadline is February 23, 2026. For more information, contact Professor Mikael Sellin. Uppsala University is recognized for its international research environment and commitment to high-quality education and research. The university offers a stimulating and supportive work environment, as evidenced by its HR Excellence in Research award. For further details and to apply, visit the official job posting or contact the department directly. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in infection biology, microbiology, organoid technology, and antibiotic research within a leading European research institution.
