This PhD position at KU Leuven focuses on advancing the field of digital process twins within the DOPPLER project. The research aims to develop reliable digital twins for object-centric processes using model-driven engineering (MDE). The project builds on established foundations, as detailed in a prior publication ( Springer article ), and offers opportunities for international collaboration, including research stays at TU Wien. As a doctoral researcher, you will join the Research Centre for Information Systems Engineering (LIRIS) at KU Leuven, a dynamic group engaged in high-level scientific research across domains such as conceptual modelling, model-driven engineering, smart learning environments, business intelligence, data mining, and process mining. The research environment is both fundamental and applied, providing a stimulating setting for academic growth. Supervision will be provided by Prof. Monique Snoeck (KU Leuven) and Dr. Charlotte Verbruggen (TU Wien), ensuring strong academic guidance and international exposure. Applicants should hold a master's degree in Business and Information Systems Engineering, Informatics, or Computer Science, with excellent academic results. Admission requires a GRE or GMAT score above the 75th percentile (quantitative), and a recent TOEFL (minimum 575 paper-based, 233 computer-based, 90 internet-based) or IELTS (minimum score 7). Essential skills include solid programming abilities in Java, Javascript, and Python, a strong mathematical background, and knowledge of software engineering. Experience in business process modelling and model-driven engineering is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate creativity, passion for research, and the ability to work efficiently in a research setting. The position offers full-time employment as a doctoral scholar for one year, renewable up to four years after positive evaluation. Funding covers salary and employment benefits. The research group values diversity and inclusivity, fostering a respectful and socially safe environment for all members. Applications are accepted via the KU Leuven job portal ( application link ).
