University of Oxford, Department of Physics, is recruiting a PostDoc to help build a self-driving laboratory for organic photovoltaics . This 3-year position is the first postdoctoral role on Moritz Riede’s Royal Academy of Engineering Green Future Fellowship , focused on enabling terawatt-scale, ultra-low-carbon organic photovoltaics made by vacuum processing . The successful candidate will take a leading role in designing and integrating automated experimental workflows around the UK’s National Thin Film Cluster Facility at Oxford. The role sits at the intersection of hardware control , data science , machine learning , and materials discovery , with substantial freedom to shape the self-driving laboratory architecture. Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a strong experimental or computational PhD in physics , engineering , computer science , or a related field. The post also asks for demonstrable experience in lab automation or control systems , strong programming skills (for example Python ), and enthusiasm for building robust data/ML workflows and contributing to a greener future. The position is based in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford and is embedded in a collaborative ecosystem spanning physics, materials, chemistry, and engineering, with external academic and industrial partners. Deadline: midday (UK time), Tuesday 12 May 2026. How to apply: Use the application link in the post to access the full job details and submit your application through the Oxford recruitment portal.
