Mineral Processing

The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute is offering fully funded PhD scholarships through the Collaborative Consortium for Coarse Particle Processing Research (CPR Program), now entering its second five-year phase. This multidisciplinary program addresses challenges in coarse particle processing by integrating flotation chemistry, hydrodynamics, comminution, geo-metallurgy, and circuit design. The opportunity is ideal for graduates passionate about mineral processing, geometallurgy, or flotation chemistry, and offers strong industry connections. Three to four scholarships are available, each focusing on different aspects of coarse particle processing. Applicants should have a minimum Honours Class IIB or equivalent in minerals processing or engineering, and prior experience in minerals processing, geo-metallurgy, process mineralogy, or mineral characterisation is highly desirable. The scholarship includes a tax-free living stipend of $36,400 per annum (2025 rate), indexed annually, a $5,000 top-up per annum, and full tuition coverage. Supervisors include leading academics from the JKMRC and BRC, such as Professor Mohsen Yahyaei, Professor Nick Cook, Associate Professor Kym Runge, Dr Marko Hilden, Dr Mayra Jefferson-Montoya, Dr Bellson Awatey, Dr Unzile Yenial Arslan, Dr Gordon Forbes, and Associate Professor Liza Forbes. To apply, submit an expression of interest (EOI) via the UQ Graduate School by 7 November 2025, including the project and scholarship details. For further information or questions about suitability, contact Associate Professor Liza Forbes at [email protected].
