Sabancı University in Istanbul is hiring for two research openings in a funded project at the intersection of evolutionary biology , computational biology , bioinformatics , computational protein analysis , and machine learning . The group led by Ogün Adebali (Associate Professor) is looking for an enthusiastic PhD student and a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the team. The research direction includes evolutionary genomics, phylogenetic inference, ancestral reconstruction, gene duplication/loss analysis, sequence analysis, protein family annotation, and ML methods for biological data. Postdoctoral Researcher requirements: strong background in evolutionary genomics or computational biology; experience with tree building, ancestral reconstruction, gene duplication/loss; sequence analysis tools such as MSA and profile-HMM; protein family annotation; machine learning experience including gradient boosting and feature engineering; strong Python and/or R programming; ability to work independently and publish. PhD student requirements: degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, computer science, or a related field; familiarity with sequence analysis and/or evolutionary biology; basic Python or R skills; curiosity about how evolution shapes protein function; bonus experience with HMMs, phylogenetics, or ML for biological sequences.
