This research aims to investigate the effects of probiotics on the composition and function of the infant microbiome, as well as related health outcomes. The successful candidate will join a renowned team specializing in early life microbiome research. Research Focus: The project will utilize advanced metagenomic and bioinformatics approaches, particularly shotgun sequencing, to analyze data from infant probiotic intervention studies. The research will explore how probiotics influence microbial communities and functional genomics, with the ultimate goal of understanding their impact on infant health. Institution and Environment: University College Cork is a leading research institution, and APC Microbiome Ireland is internationally recognized for its expertise in microbiome science. The postdoctoral fellow will benefit from a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Funding and Duration: This is a fixed-term, full-time post for 24 months, with a competitive salary ranging from €46,306 to €52,863 (IUA PD1 Salary Scale). The project is industry-funded and not part of an EU research framework programme. Eligibility and Requirements: Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in biological sciences or a related field and demonstrate excellent English language skills. Strong expertise in molecular biology and bioinformatics, especially with shotgun sequencing datasets, is essential. Experience in metagenomic analysis and microbiome research is highly desirable. The position is open to international candidates, and UCC can facilitate hosting agreements for non-EEA nationals. Please note that prior completion of PD1 or PD2 levels in another Irish HEI may affect eligibility.
