Funded PhD in Computational and Neural Basis of Decision-Making at Maynooth University

Maynooth University is advertising a funded PhD position starting in September/October 2026 in the area of decision-making, computational neuroscience, cognitive science, and neural network modelling . The project will investigate the computational and neural basis of decision-making abstracted from specific sensory or response modalities. The research will combine recurrent neural network (RNN) modelling with human EEG , making it a strong fit for students interested in multi-task RNNs , compositional cognition , human decision neuroscience , and related topics. The position is supervised/announced by Peter Murphy at Maynooth University , with collaborators Sean Froudist-Walsh (University of Oxford and Trinity College Dublin) and Redmond O'Connell (Trinity College Dublin). Funding comes from an ARDÚ Doctoral Scholarship from the Maynooth University Faculty of Science & Engineering. The award provides a €25,000/year stipend plus tuition fees for four years . Applicants should have a background in neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science, psychology , or a similar discipline. Experience with neural network modelling , EEG , or psychophysics is desirable. Informal queries are welcome. Deadline: 1 July 2026. How to apply: Use the full details link provided in the post and follow the application instructions there.
