MSCA Doctoral Researcher in Power Electronics (MAGNIFY Project)

Tampere University is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join the Power Electronics research group as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network project MAGNIFY, which focuses on advancing energy conversion technologies through high-frequency magnetics in modern power electronics. The successful candidate will work on integrating dynamic magnetic hysteresis models into frequency- and time-domain control techniques for grid-connected converters with LCL filters. The project is a collaboration among nine universities, research centers, and companies across Europe, aiming to train 15 research fellows in developing energy- and cost-efficient power electronics for sustainable electrification. The position includes international secondments at KU Leuven (Belgium) and Hitachi Energy (Poland), each for three months. Supervision is provided by Associate Professor Petros Karamanakos. Applicants must have an M.Sc. in electrical engineering, with experience in power electronics, control theory, and MATLAB. Strong skills in mathematics, optimization, and computational methods are also required. Candidates must have excellent English skills, research ability, teamwork and independent work capabilities, and be able to travel for secondments and conferences. The MSCA mobility rule applies: candidates must not have resided or worked in Finland for more than 12 months in the past three years. The position is fixed-term for three years, with a salary of at least €3950/month (or €4450/month with family allowance), and includes benefits such as occupational health services, flexible working hours, and sports facilities. Applications must be submitted online by December 1, 2025, and include a CV, application letter with referees, degree certificates, transcripts, and other supporting documents. For further information, contact Associate Professor Petros Karamanakos at [email protected].
