🚨 Fully funded PhD opportunity in functional genomics , pregnancy research , and medical science at the University of Exeter and the Wellcome Sanger Institute . The project explores how cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from pregnant people can reveal the biology of adverse pregnancy outcomes , including preeclampsia . The student will work within a collaborative environment spanning Exeter and the Sanger Institute, and will also connect with researchers across the wider UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative (FGx) network. Supervision is jointly provided by Kiki Cano Gámez (Lecturer in Human Genetics, University of Exeter), Prof Rachel Freathy (University of Exeter), and Dr Emma Davenport (Wellcome Sanger Institute). This is a 4-year fully funded PhD with fees plus stipend . The post also highlights structured training in genomics , statistics , bioinformatics , AI , and other transferable research skills. Applicants interested in starting a PhD in genomics should follow the application instructions on the UK FGx website. The deadline stated in the post is 5 January 2026 . Questions can be sent by email to [email protected] .
