PhD position in Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Groningen (Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science and Engineering). The project focuses on airway cell biology , asthma , type 2 airway inflammation , and the interactions between epithelial cells and sensory neurons . The research aims to understand how neuroimmune and neuroepithelial interactions contribute to pathological remodeling of the asthmatic airway wall. The PhD candidate will work with advanced human disease models, including pluripotent stem cell -based airway epithelial cells and airway neurons, cytokine-driven co-culture systems, and organ-on-chip technology. The project is collaborative, involving researchers from UMCG and Erasmus University Medical Center. Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field; interest in stem cell biology and organ-on-chip methods; prior experience in cell culture, molecular/cell biology, and imaging is an advantage; strong English skills and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary pharmaceutical research. Funding and contract: the position is funded by the Netherlands Lung Foundation and the Ombion centre for animal-free biomedical translation. It is a full-time PhD appointment for 4 years, with a salary of €3,059–€3,881 gross per month, plus holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus. Deadline: 6 June 2026, 23:59 Dutch local time.
