PhD opportunities are available at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in energy materials , with projects spanning battery materials and all-perovskite tandem solar cells . The post is shared by Prof. Mariadriana Creatore (Applied Physics) and highlights a collaborative, international research environment across TU/e’s Department of Applied Physics and Science Education and Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry . One vacancy focuses on atomic layer deposition for novel battery materials , working on interfaces for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries , atomic-scale processing, and thin-film technologies. The other focuses on light management in all-perovskite tandem solar cells , combining nanophotonic design , optical modelling, materials processing, and device fabrication to reduce optical losses and improve photovoltaic performance. The post also mentions solar-cell and battery-related research themes supervised by Prof. Monica Morales-Masis and Prof. Mariadriana Creatore . Eligible backgrounds include applied physics , materials science , chemistry , chemical engineering , nanotechnology , or related fields. For the battery project, experience with ALD, CVD, PVD , material characterization, and energy materials is especially relevant. For the solar-cell project, interest in photovoltaics , optoelectronics , nanophotonics , or semiconductor materials is valued. Strong English communication skills, independent research ability, and willingness to supervise Bachelor and MSc students are emphasized. Funding is provided through a full-time PhD employment contract for four years with salary and benefits under the Dutch universities collective agreement. The battery vacancy lists a salary range of €3,059–€3,881 gross per month , plus vacation pay, year-end bonus, pension, leave benefits, training, and support for international candidates. The application process requires an online submission with a cover letter, CV, publication list, and three references. Deadline: the battery vacancy states 29 July 2026 , while the solar-cell vacancy states 3 August 2026 . The post also notes that applications are screened as soon as possible and that the vacancy remains open until filled.

The Materials to Optoelectronic Devices (M2D) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is offering a PhD position focused on light management in all-perovskite tandem solar cells. The project is part of the Dutch SolarNL / SolarLab program and is embedded in a national research effort with collaborations involving AMOLF, TNO, and industrial partners. The research addresses optical losses that still limit the performance of record-breaking all-perovskite tandem solar cells. You will develop advanced light-management concepts to reduce reflection losses, parasitic absorption, and incomplete spectral splitting, with the goal of improving sunlight harvesting and current matching in tandem architectures. The project combines nanophotonic design, optical modelling, materials processing, and device fabrication. Research topics include photonic and light-management structures for enhanced absorption, material growth strategies to reduce parasitic losses in transparent conducting oxides, advanced spectral management concepts, optical simulations of multilayer photovoltaic devices, and fabrication/characterization of optical coatings and perovskite tandem devices. Applicants should hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Materials Science. The ideal candidate is motivated, academically strong, and interested in photovoltaics, optoelectronics, nanophotonics, or semiconductor materials. Excellent English communication skills are required; experimental experience is a plus. The project is interdisciplinary and collaborative, with opportunities to work across applied physics and chemical engineering research environments. The position is a full-time PhD appointment for four years at TU/e in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, with an intermediate assessment after nine months. Employment conditions include salary scale P, a pension scheme, paid leave benefits, training opportunities, commuting and home-working allowances, and support for international candidates. The application remains open until the position is filled, with a stated deadline of 2026-08-03.
